Let It Go

The snow glows white on the mountain tonight
Not a footprint to be seen
A kingdom of isolation
And it looks like I'm the Queen

The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside
Couldn't keep it in
Heaven knows I've tried

Don't let them in, don't let them see
Be the good girl you always have to be
Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know
Well, now they know

Let it go, let it go
Can't hold it back anymore
Let it go, let it go
Turn away and slam the door

I don't care what they're going to say
Let the storm rage on
The cold never bothered me anyway

It's funny how some distance makes everything seem small
And the fears that once controlled me can't get to me at all

It's time to see what I can do
To test the limits and break through
No right, no wrong, no rules for me
I'm free!

Let it go, let it go
I am one with the wind and sky
Let it go, let it go
You'll never see me cry

Here I stand
And here I'll stay
Let the storm rage on

My power flurries through the air into the ground
My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around
And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast
I'm never going back
The past is in the past

Let it go, let it go
And I'll rise like the break of dawn
Let it go, let it go
That perfect girl is gone

Here I stand in the light of day
Let the storm rage on
The cold never bothered me anyway!

Monsters University

Mike Wazowski, a green monster with gangly legs and one large eye, is 17 years old and dreams of becoming a professional “scarer.” He enrolls in Monsters University, where many of the scariest monsters have trained. There he shares a dorm room with Sulley, the big man on campus and a born scarer. Sulley, however, doesn’t think Mike will ever be an effective monster. The two monsters compete fiercely against each other to get into the university’s coveted scaring program. This confrontation causes their ongoing feud to become too intense though, and eventually they’re both kicked out of the School of Scaring. Interestingly, the unlikely duo must team up to get back into the school and graduate from Monsters University.

The plot of Pixar’s new film is set ten years before Monsters Inc., the 2001 film that introduced Mike and Sulley. This time though, the film hopes to shed some light on the pair’s first encounter and how they overcome their differences and become long-lasting friends. Audiences will see what innocent monsters go through on that scary journey from life at home to a big university.

Monsters University is a prequel to its 2001 predecessor, showing viewers what life is like for a monster in college. It’s also Pixar’s first feature-length prequel, though the studio has been planning to make Monsters University since 2005. Employees at Pixar toured top universities in the US, including Harvard, MIT, and UC-Berkeley, for their research and even copied the schools’ websites and commercials. The Monsters University website imitates those of American universities down to the last detail, from campus maps, stories about professors, to the history of the university. Pixar also ran commercials on television, mildly spoofing similar ads aired by real universities which aim to recruit students.

To give some insight about campus life, Pixar shows viewers how monsters in the university experience many of the same activities as students at American universities. The college-aged monsters join fraternities and sororities, make new friends, party late into the night, and must compete with each other to get into their desired programs. Monsters University promises to transport viewers to the hilarious and frightening world of these young monsters as they try their best to grow up.

A runaway bride who jilted three men has finally tied the knot with her maid of homour。
Kerry De'ath, 29, first ran out on her fiance Craig Smith, 32, just months before they were set to jet to Florida for the dream wedding they spent years saving for.29歲的Kerry De'ath的第一次逃婚,發生在和第一任未婚夫將要坐噴氣式飛機去佛羅里達結婚前的幾個月。
The bolting bride then settled down with a second love, Dave Futter, 29, for two and a half years - but left him when he popped the question。
Next she started dating Nick Farmer, 29, and the happy couple moved in together, booked their wedding and reception and even sent out all the invitations。
But her world was turned upside down when her chief bridesmaid Sarah Woodford, 33, plucked up the courage to confess her love for her - just six weeks before the big day。
Incredibly, Kerry suddenly realised why she had never been able to settle down with Mr Right - because she had been looking for Mrs Right。
Kerry ditched Nick, but delayed explaining the real reason - afraid of hurting his feelings. Instead she moved in with her secret admirer and six months later brave Sarah proposed to Kerry, who said yes.
Relieved friends have now finally seen Kerry make it down the aisle at the couple's no-expense-spared bash - held at the same venue where she had planned to marry a man。
The happy bride said that finally getting married had been the happiest day of her life. She said: 'I know it sounds like something out of a film, but you can't help who you fall in love with.'
'I settled down with men but every time they started talking about marriage something just didn't feel right and I panicked.
'When I was making arrangements to marry Nick, Sarah sat me down on her bed and said 'I love you'.I couldn't believe it. Then she said 'don't marry him'.
'I had no idea how she felt. But as she said the words I started to feel right.I'd spent all that time worrying about marrying a man - when it was a woman I was looking for.
'My family have been great and really supportive, which was a relief because they are quite old fashioned so I was really worried.
After three failed attempts the runaway bride finally married on September 15 at Langtons House registry office in Hornchurch, Essex, watched by 140 guests。
Sarah, who was secretly in love with Kerry for two years before finding the courage to tell her, said: 'I never thought I would get the reaction I did. But now I am so glad I stopped the wedding.'
Understanding Dave Futter, the second fiance Kerry jilted, wished her well for married life。
He admitted said: 'I always had an inkling that Kerry liked women. But as long as she is happy, that's all that matters. They seem really happy together. And we are still friends.'

Wikipedia Kid

Wikipedia Kid

Meaning: A student who has poor research skills and lacks the ability to think critically.

I was very impressed by the report's neologism: “Wikipedia kids”. Too many graduates of high schools know how to cut and paste, but they fail to learn independently and they expect success without putting in the effort.(“維基一代”這個新詞給我留下了深刻的印象。

Come on, jump in / hop in.

例如「坐公車」是get on the bus,或是「騎馬」,可以說get on the horse。

Come on, jump in the car。
從小轎車中出來就不叫get off,要用get out,例如:Everybody gets out.

"Maybe I can't leave New York. I don't know how I'd do someplace else." - Carrie Bradshaw

New York - The Big Apple

It goes without saying that New York City is one of the most popular cities in the world. Is it for the reason that a lot of people want a taste of the Big Apple? Or is it that people just want to fit in the so-called trendy American lifestyle? Fashionably speaking, it is a city that tops all the cities in the States.

New York City is the place that combines the past, present, and future of the world. The vast numbers of museums in the city are what take people into history. From MOMA to street graffiti, you see art, you feel art, and then you understand art. From luxury dining to the famous chicken on rice in the financial district, you sense food is not just something to fulfill your physical hunger, but also a way of life. From taking a ride on the subway, you'll see different expressions, different colors, and different cultures. From the stock markets on Wall Street, you predict future with numbers. From every New York fashion week, you forecast not only clothing and accessories, but movements in the world. There's always something to do in the city. It isn't just a city to travel to; it is a city to wander around for a lifetime.

 Goes without saying

Example: It goes without saying that Steve Jobs is the coolest icon in the world.

Example: After seeing Avatar, I'm convinced once again that James Cameron is a so-called genius in the movie industry.

 Fun Fact:

Big Apple has been a nickname for New York City for as long as I remember. It was first popularized in the 1920s by John J. Fitz Gerald, a sports writer for the New York Morning Telegraph. It is rumored that Fitzgerald got the term from jockeys and trainers in New Orleans who aspired to race on New York City tracks, referring to the "Big Apple." He explained his use in a February 18, 1924, column under the headline "Around the Big Apple" : "The Big Apple. The dream of every lad that ever threw a leg over a thoroughbred and the goal of all horsemen. There's only one Big Apple. That's New York."

Later on, in the late 1920s and early 1930s, New York City's jazz musicians started referring to New York City as the "Big Apple." An old saying in show business was "There are many apples on the tree, but only one Big Apple." The nickname hit off in the public in the 1970s, due to a promotional campaign by the New York Convention and Visitors Bureau.

There are thousands, maybe tens of thousands of women like this in the city. We all know them, and we all agree they're great. They travel. They pay taxes. They'll spend $400 on a pair of Manolo Blahnik strappy sandals. And they're alone. It's like the riddle of the Sphinx. Why are there so many great unmarried women and no great unmarried men?

 1.Stand on line-請排隊,大部分美國人說:stand in line;紐約人會說:stand on line。

 3.Do me a solid-如果有人問你:「Hey can you do me a solid?」就是Can you do me a favor?

 4.All right already!-這不是一句好話,意思是「That's enough! Stop it!」

7.Don't jerk my chain- "jerk one's chain" 是一個紐約人有趣的俚語。 "Stop jerking my chain." 就是 "Leave me alone."

I know,I know,I know。

I know,I see,I understand,意思簡單明瞭,就是「我知道」或是「我明白」了。

I understand則比I see正式,瞭解對方。 I see what you mean.或 I understand what you mean.

 1. Yes, I see.

 2. "The door opens like this." "Oh, I see."「這門是這樣開的。」

 3. I see what you mean, the colors on the wires tell you which terminal to connect them to.
